ava j. foster

Ava Foster is a woodcarver in Winnipeg, the heartwood of the prairies. She began whittling at an early age, joyful simply to learn what her knife could do. After a decade as a hairstylist, she traded her shears for the shop and fully committed to the medium of wood.

To this point, Ava’s work has focused on figurative carvings and masks. They are carved with images of otherworldly beings and animals with eerie, dreamlike features, and balance these embellishments with the beauty of the wood itself.
