Alison taylor

Alison Taylor is a British born Canadian Artist. Born in York, England in 1958, she immigrated with her family to Africa in 1963 and then to Canada in 1969.

Being brought up in a household of equal parts art and biology and always a dog or two has inspired great respect and empathy for animals and the natural world, which is the focus and inspiration for her art practice.

Her work is influenced by Susan Rothenberg, Cecily Brown, and Philip Guston. What drew her to these artists is the combination of simplicity of idea with the expressive and sophisticated application of paint.

Alison's paintings explore the boundaries between abstraction and representation. The process depends on many intuitive changes, drips, splatters and corrections until the image has evolved to a point where it is suddenly and often unexpectedly complete.
